Glass Replacement

Fogged Window Glass and Insulated Glass Unit Replacement

Fog or moisture between the panes usually means the seal on the insulated glass unit has failed. In many cases the glass unit can be replaced without replacing the whole window, depending on the window. Estimates are free.

Signs of a failed glass unit

  • Cloudy or foggy haze between the panes
  • Water droplets inside the glass
  • White film or streaks between the panes that do not wipe away
  • Haze that comes back after cleaning

What the work can include

  • Replacing the insulated glass unit
  • Checking the sash and frame for damage
  • Repairing damaged wood around the glass, where needed

Repair or replace?

Glass unit or whole window?

If the sash and frame are in good condition, replacing the glass unit can be an option. If they are badly worn or rotted, repair or replacement of more than the glass may be needed.

Project suitability is confirmed during your estimate.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

Why is my window foggy between the panes?

Insulated glass units are sealed. When the seal fails, moisture gets between the panes and the glass looks foggy.

Can fogged glass be cleaned?

Fog between the panes is inside the sealed unit, so cleaning the outside or inside surfaces does not remove it.

Can fogged glass be fixed without replacing the window?

In many cases the glass unit can be replaced, depending on the window. We confirm this at your estimate.

Are estimates free?

Yes. We provide free estimates.
