Tempered glass is a safety glass manufactured through a process of extreme heating and rapid cooling. It is 4 to 5 times stronger than standard annealed glass and breaks into small granular chunks rather than large sharp shards when broken. The granular chunks are less likely to cause injury.

A low-e glass (which stands for low emissivity) is simply a windowpane coated in microscopic layers of metallic oxides.
